What does the figure of a Sworn Translator represent?

The Sworn Translator is the professional in the translation field who certifies a document’s authenticity; that is to say, he/she attests its content in another language.

What is a certified translation?

A certified translation is any translation requiring the signature and seal of a registered sworn translator. In the case of Buenos Aires, the translator must be registered in the Association of Sworn Translators of the City of Buenos Aires (CTPCBA). It may consist of any kind of text or document which must be submitted to a public body or entity.

Should a translation of a legal text be necessarily certified?

The fact that a translation is legal does not necessarily mean that it must be certified, or vice versa. It simply depends on the purpose for which the client needs the translation and the entity or body to which the translation must be submitted.
For instance, a technical or scientific translation may require to be certified.
